The Seal Harbor Yacht Club was established on 28 August 1923, with Roscoe B. Jackson of Detroit serving as its first Commodore and President of the Board of Directors. The clubhouse, designed by noted architect Duncan Candler (designer of several prominent Seal Harbor cottages) was the centerpiece of the Club. That October, the land for the Club was formally transferred from the founding board members to the Yacht Club, solidifying its presence in the community.

The Club quickly became a hub of social activity, marked by a lively harbor festival in September 1923 that featured music, fireworks, and dance. In its early years, the Seal Harbor Yacht Club hosted sailing regattas, daily afternoon teas, and popular dances, leading to the expansions of its facilities after the first season. Over time, amenities such as a fireplace in the Reading Room and additional floats were added, while sailing classes would become a feature in later years.

Many of the families affiliated with the Club in 1923 are still members today. The Club celebrated its 100th anniversary in August 2023.
